Has anyone had a chance to test the CMD-TAB memory leak bug when running in full screen in this beta? I'm thinking most people on the test server aren't testing for hours at a time, so this one may be hard to validate.

Originally by: Versteckter So far it's a good start. The only issues I have seen have already been mentioned with the exception of an issue I have with the market. Any time I click on an item the client crashes out to Desktop but I can still hear the audio. I haven't had a lot of time to play with the Premium client but I think it's a pretty good so far.
Running on CTO Mac Pro Quad Intel Dual Core First Gen NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 6gb RAM

That's two comments now about no window view. The selection in the preferences window doesn't work because of how Cider is simulating the Windows environment but CMD+Return still flips you between windowed and non-windowed views.
I'm not even sure if CCP officially supports windowed mode for Mac client. Kind of a shame since right now, windowed mode seems to be the only option if you wish to play eve and still do other stuff for any length of time. There may be some limitation we are unaware of.

Its supported. There's even a knowledge base article on setting the config so it starts up that way:

Wow, really odd. You would think the programers could have written code to check the platform and when=Mac issue CMD-TAB in behind the menu pick then and saved it's state in the preferences file.
Why make Mac users chase down and edit a file??

It will be. It's not a client problem, it's a hardware problem. Apple's laptops don't have enough cooling for dealing with both the CPU and GPU running at full-tilt; the fans won't automatically rev up to their highest speed and even when they do it's sometimes not enough. This is an Apple problem, CCP can't do anything about it.
Disagree. There are plenty of 3D games that are just as graphics intensive (or more) and don't create the CPU load that the EvE client does. Native Mac games (non Cider port) will use the GPU for the bulk of the work and only modest CPU. Cider ports require massive CPU to translate the graphics API - ON TOP OF - the GPU which does the rendering. Honestly, if your playing EvE allot on your Macbook Pro, you should be doing it in bootcamp under XP or Vista. Otherwise your just going to kill it prematurely.

Running the eve client on an unsupported macbook with integrated graphics and then *****ing about how poorly it performs = bigger fail

I'm having texture issues in missions. Almost always see structures that look like a big ball of yarn or weird text printed on everything. Is this a common problem? Is the beta resolving any of this? Thanks. |
